Overview

Advanced Infrastructure supplied the EasyPIT® ULTRA access chamber system together with bespoke fabricated steel access covers to the new Amazon Delivery Station in Carlisle, Cumbria. The site joins Amazon’s nationwide UK network of more than 20 state-of-the-art fulfilment and distribution centres, where constant HGV and delivery vehicle movements demand fully load-rated underground access infrastructure.

Approach

EasyPIT® ULTRA was specified for its D400 structural performance — tested to BS EN 124 with 400kN vertical loading — making it suitable for the yard and circulation areas subject to repeated heavy vehicle wheel loads. Each 150mm ring section stacks to the required chamber depth, with all components below the 25kg single-person lift limit, allowing rapid assembly without lifting plant. Where standard cast covers could not meet the site’s clear-opening requirements, bespoke fabricated steel covers were manufactured to suit, hot-dip galvanised to BS 1461.

Results

The combination of modular chambers and made-to-measure steel covers delivered a complete access solution from a single supplier, removing interface risk between chamber and cover packages. Lightweight sections cut installation time and manual handling risk across the programme, while the D400-rated system ensures long-term durability under the constant heavy traffic of a 24/7 logistics operation.
